Minor NPCs
Exercise: Create 2 Minor NPCs for an Existing Game
Game Title: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Story & Gameplay Genres: Fantasy, Tactical RPG

FRIEND
NPC Name: Autolycus (pronunciation: oh-tAW-lih-kuhs)
NPC’s Age: 1100+ years old (like most Agarthans)
Gender ID, Racial ID, Sexual ID: Male, Agarthan, Ambiguous

How does this character fit within the established framework of the game/world you have chosen?
He is a part of the evil underground Agarthan secret society, but is kind of the little shit of the group. Constantly trying to undermine the leader, Thales, much to his chagrin. Is a master at avoiding death since Thales has tried to kill him several times to no avail. (Partly because he has several different disguises, unlike most Agarthans who only have one at a time.) Sometimes appears at the monastery marketplace to sell you rare items from Shambhala that you couldn’t get anywhere else, like unique weapons and ores.

Three Personality Traits (2 positive, 1 negative): Cunning, Opportunistic, Disingenuous

What does this character want?: To usurp Thales and become the leader of the Agarthans. He doesn’t really have a clear plan of what he would do once he’s in charge, but he wants to cause chaos because he finds it amusing.

What will happen if the character gets what they want?: A bunch of infighting would likely start between those who recognize and respect Autolycus as their new leader and those who do not. This would make them a worse ally to Edelgard, since the chaos would make the Agarthan forces much less organized. (And Autolycus would absolutely eat up every second of it.)

What will happen if the character does not get what they want?: Status quo remains the same. Autolycus doesn’t really have a stake in whether he rules the Agarthans or not; he’s doing it mostly for shits, so it wouldn’t really negatively affect him if he doesn’t get what he wants. In routes where Thales and the Agarthans are defeated, Autolycus’ wants are moot as he is likely wiped out with the rest of his people (or is he?).

Dialogue
Entering a room: “What’s this, now? A party, and nobody invited me? You wound me.”
Asking for a glass of water: “Fetch me a glass of water, if you could.”
Insulting: “And Thales says I’m the cockroach. Clearly, that distinct honor belongs to you.”

FOE
NPC’s Name: Talos
NPC’s Age: ~200 years old
Gender ID, Racial ID, Sexual ID: He/It, Agarthan Construct, N/A

How does this character fit within the established framework of the game/world you have chosen?
Talos is an organic construct made by the Agarthans as a last defense of Shambhala. As a construct, it was not built to have a mind of its own, and exists purely to do its creators’ bidding.

Three Personality Traits (2 positive, 1 negative): Duty-bound, Disciplined, Blindly Loyal

What does this character want?: To protect Shambhala and its creators with its dying breath. Whatever else it could want is irrelevant. (He would like to relax on the beach and watch the sunset, if only for a moment.)

What will happen if the character gets what they want?: Shambhala remains undetected and protected, as even if it is discovered, Talos has made sure they wouldn’t live to tell the tale (and he gets his beach vacation, as a treat)

What will happen if the character does not get what they want?: Shambhala is breached, despite Talos’ best efforts, and it is killed in the line of duty. He dies knowing he failed to protect his creators.

Dialogue
Entering a room: “I have arrived, as ordered. Direct me.”
Asking for a glass of water: “A glass of water would not go amiss.”
Insulting: “You cannot compare to Agarthan steel, worm.”
